Two main piers are to be constructed of solid granit« in 40 feet of water, about ,">OOft from each shore. Thrse two piers mix to support n. r Aiitilever bridge of a spun •if ).,44lift. The total length of the bridge with the approaches, will be 34,000 ft ( nearly six miles and a half). The top of Hie bridge from high water level will be 180 ft, aud tiie largest ocean steamer will be able to pass under it. Tho principal •jbjeel in building the bridge is to connect the International Jtailway from Halifax and St. John to Quebec, which is run by the Canadian Government at agreat loss to the country, with the Canadian Pacific Railway, an uninterrupted lino from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean through the Canadian territory.
