Divs., L3l 5* Gd and LOO. Exhibition Cup, li mile. Occident 1 St. James 2 Wakatipu 3 Recluse, Scots Grey, British Lion, Cynisca, Masthead, and Foxton also ran. After some minutes being cut to waste by the anxiety to get away a good start was effected, with Wakatipu leading, Masthead second, Occident third, and Recluse last, which position he occupied throughout. Passing the stand Wakatipu still led, with St. James and Occident bunched together, Scots Grey, the favorite, lying tijth. Half a mile from home St. James deposed Wakatipu of the lead. At the turu for home Whito gave Occident his head and he romped home winning by two lengths. St. James, the other local representative, was second, and Wakatipu third. Time, Omins, 9secs. Alsace was scratched. Divs., L 3 13s 6d and L 4 9s. To-day. Dunedin Stakes. Pygmalion 1 Moraine 2 Emmason 3 Won easily. Timo lmin Csecs. ; div. Ll lOs Gd. Cakmvai. Handicap, 6 furlong.. By the use of coalmining machines IGO miners in a month can mine as much coal in tho same time as 500 miners by the old methods. The lightermen have made such explanations that the Firemen and Seamen's Unions are satisfied with the attitude assumed by the former.
