Sir George Whitmore and others wrote, complaining of the allocation of moneys, by which the Waiapu riding had suffered great injustice. The letter pointed out that the Board having granted three months' absence to Mr Stubbs, the reprepresentative of the riding, care should have been taken that the riding did not suffer in consequence. It was stated that the Engineer was .it present in the northern riding, to spend what money was available, and it was resolved to inform the petitioners to that effect. Mr Stubbs said he did not think the Council had done its duty to the Waiapu riding during his absence. Mr Kirk wrote asking that certain repairs be effected in connection with the Tol ago ferry. —It was resolved to obtain the Engineer's report at next meeting. It was also agreed to continue the ranger in his office at the existing salary, provided he accepted ; if not, tenders be called. Cr. The Chairman said that Mr Bold, Telegr.iph Engineer, had called upon him, and said that he was very anxious that the Council should reconsider its refusal to grant the rails fora telephone to Waiapu. He said that the rails in possession of the Council, being lighter, were more suitable for the work than the Government rails. He (the Chairman) regarded the rails as practically useless. He thought they could be better spared than L2OO. Cr King objected to giving the rails, because he was convinced that they would soon be required for a tramway for the metal supply. Some discussion took place as to whether the Government would make an exchange of rails. The Clmrman did not think that was likely, as the two departments were different. However, he thought there would be no difficulty in obtaining rails from the Government, on the Council paying the freight. It was agreed that the Council adhere to their former resolution.
