Licht, sugar expert, in his monthly circular, estimates the European beat crop at 566,000 tons above last season. The production of the last two months shows an increase of 246,000 tons. An engineer at Glasgow has submitted to Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for JSiew South Wales, a new process for treating refractory ores. The process has been referred to experts to report on. The employees in the spike and nail manufactories in Worcester and Stafford have gone out on strike for higher wages. The brewing firms in Burton-on-Trent have conceded to the demands of the malsters, and tho latter have resumed work. The General Steam Navigation Company and the London and coastwise Shipping Companies threaten the early suspension of the coastal trade o /ing to the action of the dock laborers. Tillett, Chairman of the Laborers' Union, is organising the Hamburg dock laborers and inviting them to work with the London Union Congress of Trade. The Unions throughout Great Britain will meet in January next to elect a Federal Council. The refusal of a dozen clerks and the foreman at Tilbury to join the Union, as it was contrary to the agreement with the company, is causing a strike of 1,(500 dockmen. In order to prevent outsiders coming to work in the London dock, the laborers have decided to close the Union entrance lists at an early date. (Received Nov. 20, 1 p.m.) Nov. 10. The Times, in referring to the proposals for an Australian Dominion, states a little punctilio ought not to deter Sir Henry Parkes from accepting the proposal of the Premier of Victoria for a conference to discuss federation, otherwise federation will be only a dream. Archbishop Crookehas.'ulvised the members of the Tenants Defence League on no account to break the law.
