ROWING.

[by four-oar.]

The Gisborne Rowing Club's trial fours for the Herald trophies will be rowed off next week. All the crews are in splendid condition, and some of them are showing real good form. The first two heats will be rowed off on Wednesday afternoon, the course being from Graham's jetty to the club's shed. Lunn and Miller will stroke the crews . in the first heat, and Teat and Spurdle will have that honor in the second heat. Green was lucky enough to draw n bye in the first ' drawing, so he will not have to row till after the second drawing, which I suppose will take place on Wednesday night. The third heat will be rowed on Thursday, and the final on Friday. It is a very difficult task to undertake to pick the winner of each heat, but I suppose I must have a try at it. In the first heat the crews will form quite a contrast. Lunn's crew is a remarkably light one, and their boat hardly sinks in the water ; on the other hand, Miller's crew is a very heavy one, and the stern of their boat is almost under water, which makes her drag considerably. Lunn's crew get on good weight, their time and swing aregood, and they appear to be able to stay the distance. Miller's crew are sticking well to their work, but unless they can get a very light " cox " they will not be in it. I shall tip Lxjnn's Crew to win this heat. Second heat. — In this heat Teat's crew I have an advantage over Spurdle's crew, j because the former are in real good condii tion, while the latter have not had a show to get into any sort of fettle, through the stroke being changed so often, but during the last week they have been making up for lost time, and are now beginning to show better form. Teat's crew are not showing the form I expected, but, barring accidents, they must be close handy at the finish. For this heat I shall tip. Teat's Crew to win.. Green's crew are certainly showing the best form, they appear to put more dash into their rowing than any of the other crews, and they keep good time, and swing well together. | I shall expect to see Teat and Green fight out the final, unless they are drawn to row together in the third heat, and if such is the result of the drawing, one of them must " go down," and it will be Teat, because Green's men pay great attention to their work, while Teat's crew do not pay enough attention to what they are told. After calculating the advantages and disadvantages which each crew labors under I have come to the conclusion that bar accidents Green's Crew must win the trial fours straight out. The Poverty Bay Rowing Club's trial fours will be contested on the same nights as the G.R.C.'s fours. Marshall andLoomb will stroke the crews in the first heat. Walter's crew have dropped out, so the second heat will be the final, and will be between the winning crew in the first heat j and Nisbitt's crew. Marshall's crew are rowing in capital form, their time and swing are good, and they appear to be in good '* hick." I believe they did a trial spin over the two mile course and accomplished the distance in rattling good time. Loomb's crew is a very strong one and appear to stick to their work with good heart, when the crews were first picked they were strong favorites, but now they divide that honor with Marshall's crew, Nisbitt's crew being rather less in demand. Nisbitt's crew are improving every day and I think they will lead any crew they meet for the first half mile, but after that I think strength will begin to tell and they will have some difficulty in keeping ahead. I shall tip Marshall to beat Loomb after a big struggle, and also to win the final, although, as I said before, Nisbitt will lead for the first half of the distance. Mr W. Fraser has presented medals to be rowed for by the winning crew from eac'.i club. The race will most likely be rowed off this day week. The course will be from Crawford's to the Gisborne Club's shed, and the Poverty Bay representatives ought to win.

Holloway's Ointment and Pills. — Notable Facts. — Intense heat augments the annoyance of skin disease, and encourages the development of febrile disorders ; wherefore they should, as they may, be removed by these detergent and purifying preparations. In stomach complaints, liver affections, pains and spasms of the bowels, Holloway's Ointment well rubbed over the affected part immediately gives the greatest ease, prevents congestion and inflammation, checks the threatening diarrhoea, and averts the incipient cholera. The poorer inhabitants of large cities will find these remedies to be their best friend when any pestilence rages, or _ when from unknown causes, eruptions, boils, absesses, or ulceratibns betoken the presence of taints or impurities within the system, and call for instant and effective curative medicines.
