Barley — Prime malting 43 Gd and 4s 3d, feed 2s 9d, Cape 3s 3d, pearl £20. Peas — Prussian blue 3s 9d, split £14. Beana — Good whole 33 G.i, medium 33 "d. Flour— Roller £12, stono £11. Bran 95s ; sharps 95s ; pollard 903. Oitmeal —In 251 b bags £18 103 ; 71b bass, £20. Rvecorn — 3s 9d Limeed— £ls. Ey — Machine dressed 3s 6d. Cocksfoot — Good samples 3£d, medium 3jd, seconds lid. ChaT— Goocl Oatsheaf £5. Hay— B;ilt.d £4 17a Gd per ton. Butt r— Od. Chee-e — Loaf Gid, medium Gd (scarce). Hams 9d, bacon 7|d, U and B B|d. Lard — In bladders 4.W. The abotre prices current aie all f o.b. Lyttleton, Backs and paek.igus extra, except when otherwise specified. A correspondent of the Southland Times 3tates that a settler near Wullacetown have long borne with t'r.o annoyance of frequent raidsupon his fences and property by trespassing cattle determin d to put an end to the nuisance. The other evening, hearing cattlo abnut h<! sallied forth and managed to drive the beasts to the pound giving i junctions t«> the poundkeeper not to release them until tho owner paid heavily for them. Later on he discovered that the cattle impounded by him were his own, but having been recently bought he was not familiar with th^ir "pints." The pounrlkeoper (acting up to instructions), was inexorable in hisdemands for the penalties, and rutfully tho impounder had to d'sgorg ■• oro ''better." Not very long ago a pound keeper within 20 miles of InvercarLjil toon possession of ;\ &<:ay cow and placed her in durance. He then wont through tho formula ; advertised, &c, &c wi : h an emphatic po-'lcrin' t> tho effect that if not c'p.unfd &c. "^ruminie will bt sold."
