WELLINGTON, To-day,

The old cable across Cook Strait has been repaired, and complete commmunication with the South restored.

The Criminal Sessions opened this morning. Mr Justice Richmond congratulated the Grand Jury upon the lightness of the calendar, which did not contain any serious cases, being nearly all larceny. A true bill was found against Robert McCarry fur larceny.

True bills have been found against George Ewart, Frances Alexander MeMinn, Richard O'Dunnell, and Nellie H. Hurley, larceny ; Htmry Fuller, receiving stolen property ; James Madden, absconding bankrupt. Itichard McCarry was sentenced to two years for larceny.

A true bill has been found against John Pomeroy, alias Collins, for forgery on two charge 3. No bill was found against John Keefe for larceny.

AUCKLAND, To-day. A Maori woman named Hikorangi aged 00, and a boy, wore burnt to death at Olv»ewai owing to a whare catching firo.

The body of a man, name unknown, was found at Point Resolution, a bullet wound in his forehead, and a revolver alongside, it is believed to be suicide.

Two houses in Brown street, Poii3onby, owned respectively by James McGuire and John Tonkin, were burned down at two this morning. McGuiro was insured for £200, and Tonkin £150, both in the South Bdtish.

CHRISTCHURCH, To-day.

The Farmer's Co-operative Association haa declared a 7 per cent, dividend with ajbonus of 3 per cent, on paid up capital. DUNEDIN, To-day. A child at Bluespur was badly burned through its clothes catching fire.
