JUBILEE FAIR.
A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, there was a really good attendance at the Jubilee Fair last night for the Holy Trinity Church. A large number of country people oatne in, which materially added to the success of tho affair. The sale of the various articles of course attracted great numbers, but the idea, originatingwith Mrs J. Sunderland, of the Cafe Chantant, was at once unique and original, and judging from the crowds that were turned away from the door of the Cafy, after having disposed, qf their ■hilling, the fair hostess should have done a roaring business. Mrs Sunderland was ably seconded by Mr M. Macdonald, who did his part to the life, while the attendance of the waiters and waitresses was everything that could be aesired. The waitresses were : — Misses Shelton, Booth, Catley, and R>. and M. Goold ; and tho waiters Messrs Morgan, White, and Wethered, The patrons of the Cafe were most liberally supplied with refreshments of almost every description, and had the pleasure of hearing some good songs and recitations. The following ladies kindly took charge of tho various stalls :— (1) Poultry and greengrocery — Mrs and Miss Beere ; (2) Boys' stall — Mr J. Berry, assisted by Mr E. Burke ; (3) Flower stall — Misa Crawford and Miss Tucker ; (4) Toffee and lollie stall— Miss Taylor and Miss Dunlop ; (5) Refreshment Btall— Mesdames Bousfiela and E.K. Brown, assisted by Misse* Grey and Bousfield; (6) Fancy goods stall— MiasesTaylor, Porter, and Staite, assisted by Misses Adair and Lysnar (2) ; (7) Christmas tree — Mesdames Berry, Nolan, and Pollen, ansisted by Misses INorris, Evans, and Baker ; (8) Plain-goods stall — Mesdames Baker and Lysnar and Miss Williams, assisted by Miss Booth. The gross takings for the day amounted to £75, which should be largely augmented to-day, as there is still abundance of goods for sale, both useful and ornamental. To-night there will be an entire change of amusement — a character concert, during which the reading cf the conundrums and the awarding of the prize for the same The attendance this afternoon was quite up to expectation and a number of articles were got rid of. One 'of the special attractions for this evening will be the counting out of the nuts for the Jubilee prize goose and fowl prizes.
