At the Magistr.ito's Court yesterday Richard Goss, Joseph Benson, Richard Burns, John Burns, William M rmon, Vincent Dentice, and P. Harvey were charged with having on the Oth inst. unlawfully conspired to molest, injure, and obstruct Charles Edwards, an employee in tho employment of Mr J. C. Putter, and with having followed him about in a disorderly manner aud used violence towards him with a view to coerco him into quitting his employment. The eviden.cn showed that the prosecutor when leaving work was set on by a crowd of about 40 or 50, who, after knocking him down twice or three times, carried him to the waters' edge and made throats to throw him in, b'lt a gentleman interfered. Tho whole of the defendants, with the exception of Dentice were committed for trial, bail being allowed.

Auckland, to-day.

At the Supreme Court James Howrio waacharged with attempted murder of his wife. There was alao a second count charging him with wounding with intent to do her grevious bodily harm. He was found guilty on tho second count and sentenced to two years. G. L vunds received four months' imprisonment for breaking a man's jaw. H. C. Perry, for indecent assault, was sentenced to two years. Thomas McOallum, for a similar offence, did not appear, and the bail (£25) was estreated. The jud^e remarked that the amount was scandalously small, aud that it was a disgraceful miscarriage of justico. Hugh Storey, for violent assault, received twelve months' imprisonment.
