Sydney, to-day. Heavy rain prevented the cricket match Victoria v. New South Wales continuing all yesterday. The following players have been selected to play for United Australia against Shaw-Lilly white's team to-morrow at Sydney: Bannerman, Blackham, Ferris, Merrett, Jones, McDonnell, Midwinter, Moseß, Palmer, Spofforth, and Turner. Professor Jackson has been matched to box J. Stewart, the champion of Scotland, for £100 a-side and the championship of Australia. It takes place at L. Foley's Gymnasium, Sydney, on Feb. 7. Signor Sali and Tom Cannon have arranged preliminaries for a match for £100 a-side and the Grseco-Roman championship of tho world, at Melbourne. The hammerlock is barred, and tho ground wrestling limited to two minutes. Pedestrianism, which is flourishing in Sydney, is dying a natural death in Melbourne. On Christmas Day the proprietors of the Melford Running Grounds — the first established in the colony — were so disgusted at the beggarly array of empty benches, that they very nearly turned it up-
