THE BARRIER MURDER.

THE ACTUAL CONFESSIONS. Auckland, to-day. Cafirey and Perm's confessions were taken by the gaoler at the dictation of the prisoners during Monday and Tuesday. The statements of the prisoners as first written were unsatisfactory and inconclusive, as they did not coincide in important details. Caffrey in his first confession confessed to his belief that he and Perm had fired two shots simultaneously, and he was in doubt, whether his ball had not also struck Taylor, although he did intend that ifc should not do so, firing merely to intimidate. In his confessisn as ifc now stands he says he did not hit Taylor. Both Caffrey and Perm's confessions, it is stated, now agree in all salient points. The documents completely exculpate Caffrey from taking any part in the actual homicide. Twenty five copies of the petition of reprieve for the convict Caffrey have been circulated throughout the town and numerously signed. Wellington, to-day. The Minister of Justice states that the judge's report and notes, with Caffrey and Perm's statement, will probably reach him at the end of the week. Sir R. Stout is expected back on Saturday, Sir J. Yogel leaves for here at the end of the month, and Mr Richardson and Mr Larnach will both shortly be hnre. The first business of the Ministers when re-united will be to consider the case.
