A Christchurch teiegram say 3 : — "A meeting of delegates from the surburban and country racing clubs, to consider what means should be adopted to protect the clubs from loss of revenue through bookmakers laying totalisator prices, was held on Saturday at the Empire Hotel. The Lower Heathcote, Plumpton Park, New Brighton, North Canterbury, and the Ashburton Clubs were represented. The proceedings were private ; but it is stated that a mode of coping with|the bookmakers was agreed upon, and it ia to be submitted for approval to the several clubs, after which joint action is to be taken." The Onehunga races were well attended. Mitrailleuse won the Cup ; Pretender (late Alpha), 2 ; Orphan No. 2, 3. Spade Guinea ia scratched for everything at Island Bay. Tf you will notice it, this world is divided into two great classes. One claca brags about things which it does not possess, and the other possesses things which it does not brag about. Someone remarks that " solitude is well enough until you want to borrow something." As if that was not the very time when loanlinesa is most desirable.
