THE ATHLETIC CLUBS.

Sir, — As there are a number of persons laboring under a misapprehension as regards the formation of the Athletic Club, if you will kindly insert the following you will perhaps aftbrd them some information regarding the same. That the Club ia to be so formed so as to debar any professional coming here and taking part in any sports to be held, and doing that which has been done on more than one occasion, viz., making a clean sweep of the programme simply because 1«» powers as a ped. Lave been unknown ; and further, that no one shall be allowed to take part in any of the Club sports (open events excepted) unless he has been a member of the Club six months ; also, he shall be balloted for before he can be admitted. That this is not to be termed a professional Club, as any competitor has the option of taking a trophy if he so prefers. That every intending member after the Ist of January, 1887, shall produce all his past performances (if he holds such) before he is balloted for. If he fails to produce such at the time of his election, and ifc is proved afterwards that he held records at that time, he shall be expelled from the Club, Trusting this will prove satisfactory to l? 0 "" 50 " 8 w^° are un der the impression that this /J t0 k e a P r °f eS9 i° na l Club. — I ' Cjjoii, F. Lewis, Hon. SeC. G.A.C.

P.S. — I am very sorry to see " Fair Spore" laboring under such a delusion as to say from January Ist to November 30th is only a space of Jive mouths ; and further, we are in reality only holding two meetings, as the proceeds of the third will be devoted to the Gisborne Hospital.— C.L.
