MAYORAL ELECTIONS.

Wellington, to-day. The election for Mayor created a good deal of excitement in town yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr Samuel Brown, a well-known contractor. The numbers were — Samuel Brown 8(!4 George Fisher G45 Majority for Brown ... 219 Greymouth, to-day. The Mayoral election resulted as follows : — Petrie 172 Nancarrow ... 108 Kilgour 61 Oamaru, to-day. The Mayoral election resulted as follows : — W. Christie 140 J. Sinclair 85 T. Proctor 57 Wanoanui, to-day. The Mayoral election resulted thus : — Jas. Laird 244 Hy. Nathan 123 Westport, to-day. John Hughes was elected Mayor for the fourth time by a majority of 47 over J. G. Hay. Dunepin, to-day. R. B. Leary was elected Mayor, beating Carroll by 193. Invercargill, to-day. D. Roche was elected Mayor defeating the retiring Mayor. Blenheim, to-day. Mr Douslin was elected Mayor. Kumara, to-day. Henry Burger was re-elected Mayor for the third year in succession. Christchurch, to-day. Mr Ayers was elected Mayor by a majority of 5 over Mr C. Louisson. Win. Bull has been re-elected Mayor of St. Albans. Lyttelton, to-day. Mr H. Allwright was yesterday reelected Mayor of this Borough. Timartj, to-day. Mr Moss Jonas was elected Mayor of Tiinuru over Mr John Jackson, who had been Mayor for four years. Hokitika, to-day. H. C. Michel was elected Mayor of Hokitika.
