AUCKLAND, To-day.
A woman named Taylor, whose husband the other day attempted to bolt, visited Dr Knight's residence this morning with a dead baby iv her arms to ask him to endeavor to save it. The ordinary remedies were applied with no avail. Mrs Taylor was distracted, and subsequently purchased some " rough-on-rats " and swallowed it. .She now lies in a very precarious state. Bishop Barry, Primate of. Australia, has laid the foundation stone or a new building for the Young Men's Christian Association in the presence of a large and representative assemblage of all denominations, including the Mayor, several bishops, and many leading citizens. Bishop Cowie presided. The premises will cost £7500. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Accident Insurance Company the report showed- that the year's income (including the balance brought forward from last year) was £8841. The general expenditure was £7627, leaving a balance | to credit at the closa of the year of £1414. A dividend was declared of Od per share, of which 3d has already been paid. i
