The result of the trial crushing at the Thames of stone sent from here is one-fifth of an ounce to a ton from one reef, and £oe. to 70 pounds from anathor. There are a large number of reefs in the district, and they may be traced for some miles. It is quite probable a large goldfield may be developed. , While Constable McGrath was endea- J voring to arrest a man named Sandbrook | on Monday the latter jumped into a cab by one door aud out of tho other. The constable, in endeavoring to follow, fell into the embraces of Helly Rolleston, a young girl in tho cab, who held him firmly until the man got away. Sandbrook was, howover, afterwards caught, and he and fair Helly were fined in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. A large quantity o,f property is offered far sale l^ero; ' The members of the Cabinet are on their way to Wellington to appoint a delegate to represent New Zealand at the Annexation Conference. A man named Drumool was stuck up and robbed of his watch, money, and other valuables by a man calling himself a bushranger, in Wairarapa. Th,e robber lias b,een captijre4 in Masterton. One hundred and five cases are down for hearing at the Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
