« PROPOSED TELEGRAPHIC COMMUNICATION WITH TOLOGA BAY. [To the Editor of the Herald.] Sih, — Will you kindly publish the following letter for the information of the settlers ami others interested. — Yours faithfully, T. W. Poktkk. Gisborne, 17th Sept., 1883. ' ' Eleotric Telegraph Office, Wellington, August 18th, 1883. — fcJir, — With reference to the meeting held by the settlers of Tologa Bay to consider the question of establishing telephonic communication between that place ami Gisborue, I beg to inform you that the minutes of the meeting and the resolutions then carried, together with your letter to me, were duly laid before the Commissioner of Telegraphs for his consideration, in reply I am directed to say that the Hon. the Comissioner, after due attention given to the subject, finds himself unable to undertake the work at present. May I request you to kindly intimate this to the other gentlemen signing the representations alluded to. — I have, &c, Edward H. Bold, Inspector of Telegraphs. Captain Porter, Giaborne."
