A LTHOUGH this office has been in .XJL existence for a period of more than seven years, it is believed that the objects for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth in a concise from information respecting the business which this uttico undertakes : — 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts, such a Marria^o Settlements, moneys to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed (jV charitable objects, moneys tho title to which is in dispute, or whoso legal ownet is unknown or cannot be found, &c, &c. 2 The administration of the will of poisons who by appointing the Public Trustee us their executor secure the guarantee of the State for the due fulfilment of their wishes, and to avoid the rink consequent upon tho appointment of privato persons as executors, who not unfrequeutly, though earnestly deairous of acting for tho benefit of parties interested, fail to carry out legally the object b for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they are stiiving to protect in costly and harrassin^ litigation. 3. The administration of all estates of which no disposition has been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the responsibility of admiuistratioii, or cannot from any cause obtain tho necessary powers to act. In such caßes it is tho duty of the Public Trustee to discharge all lcg>tl debts so far ns tho assets extend, und divide the residuo amongst the next of kin. 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 5. The charge of all lands lying waste and unoccupied of which the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for tun years, having left no known agent.
