CHRISTCHURCH.

This Day. At the nomination for Cheviot to-day, there was considerable unpleasantness. Messrs. Sauuders, Fendall, and Mcllwraith were nominated, and then Bnunders wanted to speak, but Fendall and Mcllwraitli wanted a show of hands first. The Returning Officer left the matter to the meeting, and they decided by a large majority that a show of hands be taken first. Accordingly that was done, Saunders protesting against it as an illegal action. Material reductions in the wharfage rates have been agreed to by the Lyttelton Harbor Board, and come into operation in the beginning of the year.
