PUNGAREHU.

This l>av. Yesterday morning 270 of the Ngatiawa tribe wore inarched from hero to a small river two miles beyond Opunake were they camped last night, previous to completing tho journey to their homes to-day. They were escorted by 40 of the Armed Constabulary. On reaching Parapara a Nativo named Kereopa who has been wanted some time, was seoii and arrested, on a warrant to p;ive evidence against Hiroki at New Plymouth on Mondny. Two other Waitotara chiefs will also be sent to give evidence in the case. Mr. Bryce is of opinion that the evidence of Charles Messenger will be sufficient to establish a prima facie case against Hiroki, and that on Monday he will be committed for trial. The arrest of Natives continued all yesterday, 377 being taken, including faranaki, Ngatiawa, Ngktiranui, and Waikato, tribes. Of the latter only 40 were taken, but others are expected to be identified to-day. The entire dispersion uf the Natives will only occupy a few more days. It haa been found necessary to handcuff Titokowaru and keep him in solitary confinement, owinjj to his threatening behaviour. There am several charges on which he could be md ctcd, such as taking up arms against the Quenn, murder, sedition, and some minor otfance*, nmi it is not improbable that he will be brought before the Court. In any ex**) Mr. Biyce has decided to doiam him under arrest.
