CHRISTCHURCH.
This Day. Hon. John Hall will address the electors at Leeaton next Saturday. A meeting was held there last Saturday night to see about getting a candidate to oppose the Premier, bin no one would accept the honor, and the proceedings fell through. There are now fifty three candidates for the Canterbury districts, and others are still threatening to cvnf forward. The Drainage Board are about to spend £20,000 in labor for laying sewer pipes in the town and suburbs, aiid tenders are called for the work. The annual University examinations began yesterday. Attheß.M. Court yesterday W. W. Charters, who absconded to England, was committed for trial on six charges of embezzlement. The charge of forgery will be heard un Monday.
