The vindictive spirit shown in iomt of the recent outrages in Ireland assume* a ludicrous, though brutal form. The practice of compelling bailiffs to eat their processes has been exceeded la an instance which is reported front Moate. A farmer found one of his cattle very ill a few daya ago. A veterinary surgeon prescribed a dopiovu dose of castor oil \ but, unfortunately! the only vendor of the drug in the neighbourhood had been "Boycotted." The farmer had no alternative bat to lose his cow or enter the forbidden shop. He waited until nightfall, when he ventured to the shop and procured half* a- pint of the oiL He was not unobserved, however, and had not proceeded far on his way home when he was met by some Land Leaguers, who asked him if he did not know that Reilley's bhop had been ''Boycotted." He pleaded dire necessity, but in vain. The bottle of oil was taken from him, his mouth held open, and the whole contents were poured down his throat. Writing in the United Irishman, an American publication, O'Donovan Bnssa remarks:— "We are to have meaßure for measure, blood for blood. Two verdicts of murder have lately been recorded against the English Government in Ireland, and we would heartily rejoice this day if the telegraph flashed across the news that some two Irishmen had executed that sentence on Buckshot Forater and Hypocrite Gladstone." The following extract has reference to the Dotterel explosion :— "lrishmen, here is the work you ought to direct your attention to. Give half your money to the Land League, and give half to blow up an English ship or an English cantle, and you will be doing tome good. Without some kind of fight or skirmishing outside Ireland to back up what Mr. Parnell is doing, and to draw off the enemy's attention from his peaceful and constitutional agitation, that agitation will collapse." In another article O'Donovan Rossa threatens to blow up all vessels carrying the English flag.
