AMERICAN POSTAL FRAUDS.
The united States Postmaster-General in making pretty thorough work with tho extravagant and fraudulent contracts for mail service. He has already cut off some half million of dollars in the expenditure, and says he has but made a beginning. He bids fair to make his Department self-sustaining, if the rascally contractors do not get political influence enough to oust him from the Cabinet, which is, unfortunately, by no means impossible. It is a fact worth noting that these frauds were 6rst unearthed, their general plan discovered, and their real authors pointed out, not by any official, but by a Washington correspondent of the New York Sun newspaper, while the heaviest part of the actual investigation no* going on i» being made by another, employed by the New York Time*. These papers are respectively Democratic and Republican in politics, but are both very earnest in their exposures, the Time*, as in political sympathy with the Administration, being to its credit, particularly ao.— Argus Oorrwpondent.
