A tiuo of £20 wan inflicted upon a butcher for selling si hare without a license. It was considered by the Government as a hardship, mid steps have been taken to amend the existing law accordingly. The 10 per cent reduction had been refunded to ex- Judge Harvey, and on therepresentationofex-Judgp Weston, that he was equally entitled to v refund, the Government had acceded to the request and the refund had been madn since. Papers on tint? Subject had been laid on the table. " Mr. Saunders moved that no financial proposals will be acceptable to the House that are not based on the strict adaptation of tho annual expenditure of the Colony to the annual revenue, without any assistance from borrowed money, and that do not aim at the complete separation of the colonial and local finance, and the emancipation of the latter from the control or interference of the House. Major Atkinson said the motion could have no practical effect even if it was carried, as it aimed at no practical result. The debate was interrupted by tho 5.30 adjournment. Tho House resumed at 7.30. t Mr. Wright brought up the report of the committee on the New Plymouth Harbor Works, recommending that the works be stopped, as they could not effect the intended purpose without further borrowing. It was ordered that the report be considered on Friday week next. On the motion of Sir O. Grey the House went into Committee on the Law Practitioners Bill. Sir George Grey then moved an amendment, restricting the Bill to men; stating he did so in deference to the opinions of others, al thought he himself thought the time would come when women would be placed on the equality with men in regard to professions. After some discussion the clause as printed with the words " persons " instead of " males " was passed by 25 to 24. The Bill was reported a third time •A^nd passed, bn the motion of Sir George Grey the Parliamentary OatUst.Bill was read a sebond time. The Kakanui Harbor Board Barrowing Bill was read a second time. The Timaru Harbor Board Endowment Bill was read a third time and passed. The House rose at 1 o'clock.
