ROAD BOARDS.
[To the Editor of the Hkrald.]
Sir, — Allow me through your very valuable paper, to «,a,sk' the following questions : — lst — Is it the correct thing to allow a Secretary of a Road Board to contract under that Board, or to do any work on the r"oAd%'< while holding that position I 2nd^rCan he take contracts indirectly in , another person's namff? Qreat dißSutfsffcfction exists in one of the County districts, coving to this, through neglect t ftp the part of the members of the Board in not electing a Secretary who is totally .disinterested in the work done under that Board's management. The Jaw in Victoria is very atriot on that point, and only right to all parties that it is so. The Act states — " That a member or parties connected with Boad Boards cannot either 6ontracb or have any. interest in the w*ork done under that governing body." Sir, wo have been misgoverned long enough, and sadly want tilings done in a moro legitimate manner. It is high time therefore that the ratepayers insist on the members to be elected shortly, that they shall appoint secretaries whose vocation ia entirely removed from that of contracting or doing any road making Contractors are freely tiriking of the injustice. — I am, &c. , ;."; A LA MODE.
