A Chinaman was arrosted 011 Saturday night, for smuggling ashore 4^j cigars from the steamer Bowen, wnich has arrived here from Auckland.
The following weather cablegram was received from Sydney last night :— A depression, with moderate winds, passed south of Adelaide yesterday, and was off Hobart Town this morning, the barometer being at 29.7. The gale of Wednesday last is now clear of the Australian Coast, where the weather is now settled with a light S. \V. wind, and rising pressure. The storm centre is now passing North of New Zealand, bringing easterly gales.
It is understood that the Fencing Bill will be again introduced this session, and that Mr. Bryce will have charge of it. •
It is reported that Sir George Grey is having heveral thousand copies of his speech on Local Government printed for distribution all over the Colony.
