THE promoters of this undertaking are fully impressed with the idea that the time has arrived for the profitable establishment of a company to provide the Borough with Gas. They are fortified in their opinion by that of Mr. E. B. Parsons, of the Auckland Gas Co. , Mr. J. R. Georok, of the Wellington Gas Co., and of other practical men. Some valuable statistics have also been obtained by personal canvaso, which conclusively »how that the proposed company's business will commence with a demand to the extent of at least 10,000 cubic feet per diem ; which will bu a dividend-paying quantity. The Directors ha\o several sites under their consideration, tho conditions of which are— suitable water frontages for shipping, with position for ready access to consumers. It is proposed to erect works suitable forthe manufacture of Gas from Coal, and to have also the small additional plant necessary for utilising the Gas developed in the manufacture of Antifriction Grease and Paraffin from tho mineral lately discovered in tho South Pacific Petroleum Company's ground, the late experiments having proved its suitability as a Gas-making material. The development of this industry from the latter material may therefore become one of great importance to tho district, and should satisfactory arrangements be made with the Directors of th« South Pacific Petroleum Company, tlie Gas necessarily evolved from tho manipulation of the Paraffin mineral can be saved to the benefit of the consumers and laboring population.
