ARCHBISHOP CROKE'S LETTER.

The Archbishop of Oashel has written to Mr. Sullivan the following letter. Archbiahop Croke at onoe approves the position taken by Mr. Sullivan, and vindicates the patriotic action of the women of Ireland : —

" Cashel, March 17, 1881

"Dear Mr. Sullivan,— l congratulate you very heartily on your timely, and, under the peculiarly provoking circumstances, very temperate, and withal touching letter that appears over your name in this day's Freeman. 11 1 adopt, unreservedly, the sentiments you have so admirably expressed, and am delighted to find that some one of mark has at last stepped forward from the ranks of the laity to vindicate the character of the good Irish ladies who have become Land Leaguers, and to challenge publicly the monstrous imputation cast upon them by the Archbishop of Dublin. " His Grace will not be allowed in future, I apprehend, to use his lance so freely aa he haß hitherto done, or to ! ventilate, unquestioned, the peculiar political theories which he is known to hold in opposition to the cherished convictions of a great, and indeed overwhelming, majority of the Irish priests and people. " It is a satisfaction, however, to feel that his Grace's political likinga and dislikings. though possibly of some consequence elsewhere, carry with them very Htte weight or significance, except with a select few in Ireland.

" Your very faithful servant, "T. W. Croke, " Archbishop of Cashel." It was seen in our published telegrams that Archbishop Croke was called t« task by his superior the Archbißhop of Dublin, and that an apology for writing the letter was made.
