A DISAPPOINTED BRIDAL PARTY.
It was reported during last week that Rev. Mr Haaelden, of St Luke's, was ooming to Helensville so perform the first marriage ceremony in our little church, on Sunday morning, at 10 a.m. Consequently a number of people assembled to witness the ceremony. Before the hour the bridegroom was patrolling the hill above the church in a Btate of anxiety, casting furtive glances at a certain little cottage on the banks of the Kaipara river. He did not watch in vain, as true to time the bride, accompanied by her bridesmaids, best man (who is about to, undergo the trying ordeal hiqoself) a,n,d her lather emerged from the front floor and walked; up to the church. AH seemed *eady, and in a, state of expectation. Erery countenance wore a smjle, and
heart beat light, when the parson called the groom aside They held a short consultation, and examined certain documents ; then both walked out of the church and down to the court-house together. Their stay away seemed long, and as minute chased minute away the hearts of some, particulary the best man, seemed to missive them. After the lapse of some twenty minutes, the parson and groom returned, the former with a blank form in his hand, and the latter with a very blank countenance. After they recovered from the shock of the disappointment themselves, they shocked the company by informing them that no marriage could take place that day, as the Deputy-Registrar (who has departed this place for Whangarei a week ago, and a good job for him), had not filled up the right form ; the poor ladies looked cross, and I would not like to be that Deputy-Registrar if they should meet him within the next week —however they put as good a face on as possible and walked away home, there to wait patiently until the mistake could be remedied. — Correspondent Auckland Star.
