LENT SERVICES.

(To the Editor of the Hkrald.) Sir — I clip the following notice of Serviceslfrom the Taranaki Herald. The Clergymen of the Church of England resident at New Plymouth conduct four and five Services on the Sunday, and' ride many miles to their labours, both of thorn elderly gentlemen, advanced in years. During the solemn season of Lent just over, one Church in Gisborne- - Holy Trinity— -was not opened once during this solemn season of Lent. One or two lamps assuredly might have been lit in the Church, and tho doors opened of an evening. At all events, it would havo given those who had a desire to retire into the Sacred Edifice an opportunity to spend half-an-hour in solemn meditation and prayer. Our friends of the Roman Catholic communion set us a good example ; the bell at tho Chapel has been rung daily at 0.30 a.m., and also that of onr abused neighbors, the Maoris, living over tho river at the Kainga. — I am, <fcc M Churchman.
