This Day. The Chamber of Commerce and Sharebrokers Association telegraphed to London that the Haven Gold Mining Company have no land as indicated in their prospectus, the ground therein described being worked by other companies. Mi f. W. L. Ilees is commencing proceedings against the Free Lance for libel. He intends to issue some eight or ten writs for separate libel, and the proceedings are to be criminal. A little girl named Evans, belonging to St. Mary's Orphanage, tumbled down yesterday the steps leading from the Convent bathing-houso to the beach and suffered injury to the brain. Her life is despaired of. The first meeting of the Auckland Institute of Architecture was held yesterday. The President stated that the Institute promised to merge into a general one for the whole Colon)r. The annual meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held yesterday. Mr. Dillwovth was elected President. The receipts for the year were £1,341 and expenditure £1,324. A very sudden death occurred yesterday at Coromandel. A minrr named Edward Davios wns cutting a pipeful of tobacco when he fell back dead, it is supposed to be from heart disease. Ireland Brothers' Panmure tannery, the most extensive in New Zealand, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday morning. There is nothing known as to its origin. The total loss is estimated at £20,000. Amongst the property destroyed, are 6,000 sides leather, 18 bales of hides, 300 tons bark, 3,G00 gallons cod oil. The tannery gave employment to 80 men. Insurances have not been fully ascertained, but the following is an approximate list of the losses. New Zealand, £3,500 ; Union, £100 ; Standard, £350 ; Transatlantic, £800; Victoria, £320; North British, £700. At a meeting of the Auckland Jockey Club yesterday, with respect to the "stiffening" of Golden Crown in the Panmure Handicap, it was decided to disqualify the horse, its owner Biers, and his son the jockey from running on any course undei the Auckland Jockey Club rules.
