AUCKLAND.
This Day. Mr. Speight addressed a meeting of his constituents for City East last night. Duly about 200 persons were present. He spoke two hours and twenty minutes, the speech being principally a review of the work of the session. He received v vote of confidence. Maclvor, an agricultural chemist, has returned to Auckland from an inspection jf the, sulphur deposits at White Island. He has reported highly favorable. A new hotel at Kauio, Whangarei, was destroyed by tire on Thursday night. The owner lost everything. The Grammar School governors have resolved to reorganise the school with collegiate and modern sides. Mr. Roileston is to be asked to procure a head master from England at a salary of £700 a year.
