[FKOXI OUR OWN UOKItIWI'ONDBNT. ] WELLINGTON. This Day. The Commission of inquiry inspected the Lunatic Asylum yesterday. It is expected their report will be presented to the Governor early noxt week. The Australia steamer with the London mails to the 2ith February, left 'Frisco on the 13th instant, a day after contract time. Mrs. Clarke, who met with the accident on the steamer Rotorua last week, has recovered consciousness, and hopes are entertained of her ultimate recovery.
AUCKLAND. This Day. The Zealandia took away 120 passengers from Sydney, and 80 from New Zealand. The foundation stone of the Masonic Hall, Prince's street, was laid yesterday with Masonic ceremonial. The District Grand Master, G. Graham, laid the stone, and the Provincial Grand Master, F. Whilaker, Attorney General, delivered the oration. A Masonic Ball held last night terminated the proceedings.
There was rich gold from Coromandel exhibited in town yesterday, causing a good deal of excitement and rise in shures. TAUPO. This Day. The opening of the Native Land Court is adjourned to Monday. HAWERA. This Day. Sir Wm. Fox, accompanied by Lady Fox, Major Parris, and Messrs Bell and Hadfield, visited the Waimate Plains yesterday, and had an interview with Titokowaru. Sir Wm. Fox explained the position of lands on the map, showing tho Native reserves. Titokowaru appeared fully satisfied, but thought his Pakeha neighbours should be compelled to fence their land, especially along road lines to prevent cattlo trespassing on the Native reserves, INVERCARGILL. This Day. Tho dwelling house of Sinclair, a farmer, at Castlerock, was burned down on Tuesday night, the family narrowly escaping, leaving their clothing and everything else to the flumes.
