LOCAL AND GENERAL.
#. There is a large accumulation of work in the Resident Magistrate's Court which is likely to occupy the greater part of next week. This morning there waa a clean sheet. The steamers North and South will reacb the port early to-morrow morning. The last boat for Aucklaud will leave the wharf at 8 o'clock a.m., and the laat boat for the Southern steamer leaves at 4 p.m. The County Council did not break up this morning uutil after one o'clock ; and even then some of the business remained unfinished. The auction rooms for the Saturday sales were well attended, and although there were only "sundries" offered, the prices realised were very good. The erection of a Masonic Hall in Aucklaud, on the site iu Princess street, is after all to be an accomplished fact, for, after years of waiting, plans have been prepared by Mr. Skinner, which have been approved by the committee. Tenders bave been called, and, at a meeting held on Monday uight, one was accepted. There was close competition, the tender of J. Colebeck, for £2630, being accepted.
