In the House of Commons to^ay, Mr. Forster obtained leave to introduce a Bill, empowering the Viceroy of Ireland to issue warrants for the arrest and detention of all persona suspected of treason, and for restraining the aale and possession of arms in any district.
January 25,
Mr. Forster introduced to-day, a Coercive Bill. The powers it confers on the Viceroy of Ireland extend to October, 1882.
Dr. Lyons, member for Dublin, gava notice of an amendment requiring tho Government to cany out reforms in Ireland before passing a policy of coercion.
Sir Stafford Northcote in the course of a Bpeeoh on the subject, said Mr. Forster's facts were sadly convincing of the necessity for immediate stringent measures.
The trial of the Laud Leaguers still proceeds.
Justice Fitzgerald finished summing up to-day. The whole tenor of his address is generally admitted to have been strongly hostile to the accused.
Naws from Natal Btates that the Goverpor, Sir George Colley, has organised a force of 1,000 strong to operate against the Boers, and has commenced his advance into Transvaal.
