A DUEL FRUSTRATED.
-As attempt was ! made recently to carry out a duel in Melbourne, but was frustrated by the intervention of the police, who arrested the challenger. It appears that for some time past the social relations between Herr Ernest Speyer, secretary to the German Commission at the Exhibition, and Mr. Max Hirsch, merchant, of that city, have not been of an amicable nature. It having come to Speyer'a knowledge that his honor aa a gentleman had been assailed by Mr. Hirsch, he sent a letter demanding an apology.
