[ To the Editor of the He rald. ] Sir, — I beg you will announce to the public, that as Chairman of the meeting of shareholders held at Townley's Buildings on 30th September last, I have not received any communicetion from the Secretary or Chairman of the meeting held on the 18th ult., at Sydney as to the result. From all parts of Rhenish Germany and the adjoining regions there come reports about the serious damage done by last winter's frosts to the vines and the fruit trees, the extent of which is only now being realized. Thus in the district around Fnlda over 55,000 fruit trees have been killed, being about one fourth of .all in the district. The vines seem tb have fared better. The stock has suffered in many cases, while the root is still vigorous. But the injury even to the vine 3 will be felt for some years. The roses also have suffered greatly. The tea-rose has almost disappeared throughout the Rhine valley, and even the common dog-rose has been quite destroyed in many places. __.fc_ra.-_£je-y enoug-i, -_3 it Would, at first appear, the deep valleys suffered most, while elevated slopes and open places escaped with minor loses. During the year ending on June 30th last, upwards of 450,000 emigrants from Europe arrived in the United States.
