Archdeacon Williams' rain gauge showed that between eleven o'clock yesterday morning aud eight o'clock this morning — 21 hours — five and a half inches of rain fell, the largest fall in the space of time which has occurred in Gisborne since its earliest settlement. Owing to the extreme length of .the proceedings of the Borough Council last evening, we are compelled to hold-over till to-morrow a portion of the same. The Melbourne papers comment on the number of young men, colonial born, on trial at the late Melbourne Criminal Court. Of seven, whose ages did not exceed twenty-two, five were Victorians, and two natives of New South Wales and New Zealand respsctively.
