There is no crop so valuable for the renovation of partly exhausted grain lands as clover. As a rule, trees in a warm climate need much more pruning than they do in cold one. Potatoes raised on land heavily dressed with manure, saturated with urine, or containing a large quantity of fixed ammonia, will certainly be scabby. It is said that an infallible cure for gapes in chickens is to give them as much kerosine oil as they can swallow at one dose. The official statistics of Michigan report the area in orchards 1879 as 229,262 acres in apples, and 10,771 in peaches. The number of separate holdings in Ireland- according to the returns for 1879, was 576,040 or 3359 less than in the previous ygar. The Russian Press at the begining of August was again pointing out that the participation of Russia in the settlement of Afghanistan was inevitable. The Legislative Assembly of Quebec has passed a hill incorporating a company to pierce a tunnel under the St. Lawrence river. At the begining of this century the manufactures of France were valued at £6 000.000 ; in 1874 their value was put down at £416,000,000. A coral bank, about 10,000 metres in circumference and between 150 and 200 metres thick, has been discovered 20 miles from Sciacaa, Sicily, and enormous quantities are daily extracted.
