c -- - f c The following extraordinary notice i has been issued by .the Victorian Gove rnment in its zeal for retrenchment : I " Members of the Govenment service 1 enjoying the benefiit of Government y quarters, rented or otherwise, will in i future be required to bear the expense t of sweeping the chimneys and . cleaning i the closets, cesspits, &c, thereof. The 3 Government vrill in future pay for such 3 services only in cases where two or more . officers share the same accommodation. " . One of the provisions of the notice is , rather puzzling. Where *' two or more r officers"conld divide the expense, the 3 Government undertake to pay for sweep ■ - ing chimneys and cleaning cesspits, but 3 where the wliole charge would fall on a 7 -single individual, he must pay it him- , self.
