Frank Fiidcje, a racy contributor to the New Zealand Public Opinion, in noticing the following advertisement appearing in the Daily Times, viz. : — "Wanted, a thorough competent editor for the Bruce Herald ; must be strictly temperate. Apply, Donald Reid, Milton " — asks — :— ■*■" Does Mr. Donald Reid mean to offer an insult to those ■n ho follow the honorable profession of journalism, by suggesting that editors are sometimes addicted to 'getfcin fu' V Has he ever known a newspaper man who was not, at all times and places, " strictly temperate V From the above advertisement I should opine that Mr. Donald's Reid's knowledge of editors is of a very limited nature indeed. No greater insult can be offered to an editor than to ask him to assist you in sacrificing a shilling at the shrine of Bacchus. For shame, Donald, for shame, The Melbourne model loding-house continues a commercial success — 35,429 lodgers, 10 per cent, divided, £2000 to the reserve fund, and £62 cash balance is not bad for one half year's work.
