The Murder by a Fiji Boy. Confession of the Murderer. AUCKLAND. This Day. At the inquest on the body of Henry Louis Rees, held yesterday, Emma Rees, aged 12, a daughter of the murdered man. deposed to meeting the prisoner, axe in hand, on Tuesday morning, whea going to meet her father. She was frightened, and ran back home. Frederick Erington, aged 15, was passing near the scene of the murder on Tuesday morning, and heard two blows, a gi'oan following each blow, but he did not see either prisoner or the murdered man.

The skull was cleft open at the sides, the wound being fully two inches asunder, and death must have been nearly instantaneous. In Fiji, at Ban, some natives seduced an Island' woman, the wife of his friend. Some Fiji soldiers' intrigued with her also. One day after coming to Auckland, Mr. Wilcott spoke angrily to him and scolded him, ancl on another day corrected him because some housework was not clone. He was told the Europeans would hang him to a beam. He brooded over this. He attacked the young Wilcott's because they weae chaffing and teasing him. They said he was a little man, and could do nothing, and they could turn him round. He then took the axe, and struck them. The jury at once returned a verdict of ." Wilful Murder," and the coroner made out a warrant of committal. H.M.S. Danae, it si stated will, leave for Fiji shortly to bring Sir Arthur Gordon to New Zealand. CHRISTCHURCU. This Day. A man, named John Asher, threw himself into the river yesterday, but was rescued by some men in a boat. He had been in low spirits lately. DUNEDIN. This Day. Larnach's stables at Portobello were burnt down on Tuesday nignt. The damage is estimated at ,£2,5 00, insurance only £500. WELLINGTON. This" Day. The magisterial inquiry into ihe alleged ill-treatment of a prisoner" by two constables commenced yesterday. Edmunds alleged he had been illused, and stated the circumstances. The inquiry is adjourned till tomorrow.
