An elderly man named James Watson, attempted suicide on Saturday by taking laudanum, but the dose was too strong and acted as an emetic. The cause is stated to have been his wife's intemperance, thi'ough which he was thrown out of employment. Watson is now out of danger. AUCKLAND. This Day. The French vinegrowers leave for Northern Wairoa this afternoon, and intend to plant three acres at once, and next year 15 to 20 acres ; and they hope in three years to produce wine equal to any in the world.' The annual horse parade took place on Saturday. In some classes the quality of the entries was hardly up to previous year's. BLENHEIM. This Day. On Saturday a little boy 3£ years old, a son of Mr. Sinclair, of the National Bank, was playing in the railwaj T shed and climbing up on a railway gate that was against the wall when ifc fell, and crushed the boy's head, scattering his brains about the floor. Assistance was immediately obtained, but the boy was quite dead.
