POVERTY BAY HORTICULTURAL AND FLORICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The Committee of the above Society met in the" Good Templars' Hall, last night, Mr. Geo. Stevenson occupying the chair. The Secretary read the minutes of last meet, which were confirmed. A letter was read ftom J. B. Poynter, Esq., regretting his inability to attend the meeting, and declining to become a member of Committee, he already being, on so many, and so -.much of his time' being occupied thereby, but promising to further the interests of the Society to his utmost. The matter of the Spring : show. : was discussed, and it was decided to class the exhibits thus — Class I. — Pot-grown plants in bloom, and plants hot necessarily 'in bloom. •. _ * >3 Class ll.— Cut Flowers. : %: Class 111. — Fruit grown by exhibitors. Class TV. —Vegetables. :. >;. Mr. W. Good announced his intention of, offering a special Ist prize to the value of £1 Is., and a second, value 10s. 6d., for the best collection of vegetables shown. Resolved — "That the Secretary take such steps as he may deem advisable for I acquainting the public and ' subscribers that ; they are; invited to give special; prizes, either in money or kind, for such articles as they may decide upon, and are requested to notify to the Secretary as soon as convenient the amount of prise, and the nature of the exhibit for which such priie is given. Proposed by Mr. Bently, seconded by Mr. File—" That Mr. Tutchen be elected member of Committee vice J. B. Poynter, Esq.'" — Carried. Resolved — ' c That intend ing exhibitors be informed that they will be required to send to the Committee not later than one week before the day of the Show, the probable number of exhibits each will have, so as to form some idea of the amount of space required. It was decided that a special prize be offered at the Autumn Show for locallygrown maize ; not less than six cobs of any variety to be shown. Resolved — "That Judges shall have the power to award ■ /extra prizes only where there i» decided merit, and. wjhere there is no class open in the schedule in which the specimen might, be c&Jnbited. The Secretary "announced 105' paid up members to date. Next meeting of Committee to be called by post card. Resolved — " That members take every opportunity of urging on the ladies of the community to johrthe Society, and particularly impress on them the desirability of becoming exhibitors, the culture of flowers being peculiarly adapted to them."
