J BATTERY ENTERTAINMENT.

The performance of the Variety Troupe advertised for Monday, the 27th, promises, if possible, to eclipse all previous ones given by this popular troupe. The musical portion of the programme is, without exception, one of the finest ever brought before a Gisborne audience, and introduces to us some of the best talent in the district. We are happy to hear that a gentleman, celebrated for his skill on the pianaforte, and well-known as a leading amateur in the Australian Colonies, h»3 kindly volunteered hid assistance, and we therefore look forward to an intellectual treat. The Band have been busily engaged practising a few musical gems of the first water, and will, we have no doubt, give] satisfactory proof of the gre*t advance they have made. Madame Stewart, whose popularity never- wanes, will sing one of her favorite songs, and several* well-known vocalists who have already proved their worth will be again before the public. " The farce, to the. rehersal of which we have been allowed a private view, promises to be a big success, Meisrs Bourke, Crawford, and Huddleston having been cast in characters well suited to their abilities,, . while that portion of the work entered into by the ladies will give pleasure to all evincing as it will the great pains and careful study given by them to theii respective parts.
