The meeting convened by Mr. Allan McDonald last evening, was well attended, the hall being filled from the front to the doors. "What : Mr. McDonald said will be found fully reported in another place in our columns. Our member was well received. He was very candid in his explanations, and a vote of thanks and confidence moved in his favor was carried with much enthusiasm. Captain Porter occupied the chair. -
The man Thomas Porter, charged with violating an. infant three years of age, of which a labourer, named Johnson is the father, was' brought before the Resident Magistrate this . morning. Upon the application of 'Sergeant Kidd, the prisoner was' remanded for eight days. The case is ▼cry terrible in all its surroundings, and it is. to be hoped, the charge will be clearly •heeted home to whoever may be the guilty man.
The isubdi vision case of the Matawhero B; Block -before Judge Halse, was concluded to-day. ' Bead's Trustees claimed a certain number of undivided interests. These have been allocated as that part of the Matawhero B where Read's house at the Hapera stands, and comprises 160 acres. Wi Haronga has received , his portion at 'the Maungamoteo end of the block.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee will be held on Monday evening at the Court House.
Mr. Price, R.M., has shown consideration to the reporters of the local press by causing - a desk to be. placed in the R,M;'b Court, sufficiently long for three reporters, together with drawers with locks and. keys to hold notes and manuscript.
