♦ Legislative Council. The Council met yesterday at 2.30. In reply to the Hon. J. N. Wilson, the Hon. F. The Maori Prisoners' Bill, Census' Bill, and several others from the Lower House passed through Committee, read a third time, and passed. The Council rose at 9 o'clock. House of Representatives. The House met yesterday at 2.30. Replying to Mr. Shanks, Mr. Hall said the Government would pay a share of the expense of destroying rabbits on Government reserves or unleased lands. Mr. Hall announced that the Public Works Statement would not be delivered until Friday night. The Native Land ITraud Prevention Bill was further considered in Committee. The House rose at 5.30. The House resumed at 7.30. Mr. Bryce moved that the House go into Committee on the Native Lands Sale BUI. Mr. Reader Wood moved as an amendment that no system of Native land sale will be satisfactory to the House which did not confer on the Natives named in the certificate obtained from the Native Land Court an absolute right to dispose of the lands in open market, without any Government interference. A debate ensued, which occupied nearly the whole of the sitting. Ultimately Mr. Wood's amendment was negatived, and the House went into Committee on the Bill. ; . The first clause being agreed to, progress was reported, and the House adjourned at 12.30.
