POWER'S OPNION OF NED KELLY.
The bushranger Power, the once com-panion-in-arms of the | notorious Ned Kelly, is still (says t^e "Melbourne., Telegraph ") an inmate 'of the Pentridgeprison hospital, suffering from an old disease contracted during his bushrang^ ing career. The man who, "at^ one' period, was the terror of the. northern districts, has now become as helpless as a child. Of late years (Power has considerably changed in appearance, having a long beard, which ha? become .white.r Power, says, . in speaking of hia old associate, that, he fal ways .j^eyente^ him., from shedding blood,'. a 8 .lig,wo.uld nave done on one or. two occasions. ' , Ypyrev admits that Kelly.p'ossesses.c'Qpßideriable personal courage ; b.iit he , was always of V the opinion that, in extreme danger^he would be wanting in judgment and discretion sUflidient, to <sarfj> him out of dimculties. On one ddeasiony when they were surrounded by the police, close to the late Dr. Row's station, Mount Battery, neat Mansfield, and the^appeared but little hope of escaping, fielly proposed to surrender, when Power told him if he did he would shoot him on the spot. In attempting to escape, Power's horse was hit in the fla'hk by a spent ball from the police, b'iijt heyand. Kelly succeeded in. escaping to the : ranges.
