LOYAL ORANGE LODGE, STAR OF GISBORNE No. 7.
The brethren of the above lodge commemorated their fourth anniversary, by a social gathering held last night in the Masonic Hall, which, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather passed off very satisfactorily, not the slighest hitch of any kind occurring to mar the proceedings. There was a fair muster of j members, their friends, and a large sprinkling of ladies, made about thirty j couples present. Dancing commenced shortly before nine, and was kept up until eleven, when the whole sat down to supper, prepared by Bro. E. Erskine in his usual efficient stylo. After the craving appetites of those present had been appeased, Bro. W, Boland, R.W., Deputy Grandmaster of the Poverty Bay District, who was in the Chair, proposed the health of " The Queen and Royal Family," which was responded to heartily, and the National Anthem sung. Other toasts followed, viz : — " The Glorious Memory of William the III.," "Prince of Orange," "The Imperial Grandmaster of the Orange Institution," and ' f Orangemen all over the World." The health of the " Star of Gisborne " was proposed by Mr. J. Scott, and responded to by Bro. Boland, in a very sensible speech, upon the interests of the Order, which was well received. Lastly but not least of " the ladies," was proposed and responded to on their behalf by Bro. Ratcliffe, W.M. Dancing" was then resumed, and kept up with spirit until the early hours of ingDaring the course cf the evening, the proceedings were varied by a few songs by Mr. J. Scott and Bro. Ratcliffe, which added considerably to the evening's enjoyment, and, taken upon a the whole, the affair gave satisfaction to all present.
