[From a Correspondent.]
The ..Native Lawsuits Bill passed the second reading last night, without discussion.
The East Coast Maori Electoral Bill, as drafted by Mr. W. L. Kees, came on for second reading, and would also have passed the second reading, but the ■• discussion was interrupted by the usual hour of adjournment of . the evening sitting. The members of Government are considered favorable to the Bill with the exception of Mr. Bryce, who, it is believed will oppose the Bill on the motion for the second reading.
The papers as moved for by Mr. Allan McDonald relative to Captain Porter's . private land transactions were laid on, the table of the House this day.
The Government are anxious that immediate attention be given to the sub-division of lands in the East Coast District, the Chief Judge of N.ative Court (Mr. Fenton) taking special interest in the matter. . ■ :
: Itis rumored that a proposal will shortly be made to subsidise the "New Zealand Times" for publication of "Hansard " in a modified form.
A paper was laid on the taole yesterday respecting appointing a Commission of Inquiry into the Practice and Procedure of the Supreme Court and other Courts of the Colony. A meeting of members of both Houses, and other gentlemen; held yesterday, respecting the rabbit nuisance. It was decided _to recommend that Inspectors of Sheep should deal with the matter under, the supervision of Count y Councils. ;
